The GREEN TEAM Project is a European programme led by the Union of Sport Federations of Catalonia (UFEC), cofunded by the Erasmus + programme of the European Commission with the aim of fostering sustainable, eco friendly and inclusive sporting events.
The GREEN TEAM Project is firmly committed to transform our sport practice to contribute to the protection of the environment with also the goal of promoting inclusion. To do so, GREEN TEAM also promotes mechanisms needed to integrate groups at risk of exclusion in sports participation.
The European Union is a leader in the struggle against climate change and in promoting circular economies. Sport clearly has a role to play in this. Sport is not only an activity or simply a form of training; it is also a substantial and growing industry, just as its ecological footprint is also growing.
For this reason, as sports entities we have the duty to minimise the impact that sport has on our environment to benefit society as a whole. GREEN TEAM is in line with the European Union’s green transition as it advocates for a more environmentally sustainable sport.
To do so, it seeks to promote environmental education hand-in-hand with the practice of sport. The project stresses the innovation and digitalisation of sport, from grassroots to high performance sport.

The idea? To offer sporting activities that are accessible to all (young people, senior citizens, people with disabilities), while reducing the ecological impact: waste sorting, sustainable transport, local snacks, etc.
On June 12 at the Lia Manoliu National Sports Complex, Bucharest, Romania, the PLAYSOCIAL Training brought together 20 participants from Romania, selected from over 40 applicants who had completed an online training phase in May. In addition to them, more than 60 representatives of national federations, coaches, managers, and others also took part.
On World Environment Day, we want to highlight the transformative power of sport in tackling the climate emergency. The sports sector has a unique opportunity
Sports events play a significant role in our society, from small, local-level activities to large-scale international competitions. However, their environmental impact is seldom considered, which
On April 1st, 2025, GreenTeam officially announced the launch of its Sustainable and Inclusive Sports Events (SISE), an initiative that marks a key step in the project’s mission to unite the sports world around a common goal: building a greener, more inclusive future through sport.
