GreenTeam’s SISE Events: Moving Together Toward a Greener Sports Sector

On April 1st, 2025, GreenTeam officially announced the launch of its Sustainable and Inclusive Sports Events (SISE), an initiative that marks a key step in the project’s mission to unite the sports world around a common goal: building a greener, more inclusive future through sport.

At a time when environmental urgency and social equity are reshaping every sector, GreenTeam is positioning sport as not just part of the conversation, but part of the solution. With SISE, the project invites sports federations across Spain to take action locally while contributing to a broader movement that uses sport as a tool for transformation.

These events aren’t just about sport, they’re about moving together in the same direction—towards a future where sustainability and inclusion are at the heart of every activity, every club, every federation. That’s the spirit behind SISE: creating real change, on the ground, in ways that are simple, impactful, and community-focused.

Each event brings people together—children, youth, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—offering an accessible space where everyone can participate, regardless of ability or background. Federations organise inclusive sports activities tailored to their discipline, promoting full participation and a sense of community.

Alongside the sporting action, SISE events include tangible environmental measures: reusable water bottles and refill stations, proper waste sorting, eco-friendly transport options, and healthy, locally sourced snacks.

But perhaps most important is the educational element. Through signage, messaging, and interactive games, participants are reminded of the bigger picture: how the choices we make—even at a local sports event—can contribute to a healthier planet and a more just society.

SISE events are closely linked to the free online course on sustainability and sport, developed over several months by project partner Ecoserveis, with the support of the entire GreenTeam consortium. The course is available on the ESIDE platform:

Any sports organisation—not just federations—can take this course for free and gain the knowledge and tools to help create a better world through sport. It offers practical resources, real examples, and inspiration to turn good intentions into action.

The format of the events is intentionally flexible, typically lasting two to three hours and built around sports circuits or team-based stations. Each federation is encouraged to adapt the model to suit its community and resources, with full support from GreenTeam and UFEC, including an online course, toolkits, visual materials, and communication guidance.

Participating sports organisations—primarily federations—will organise their SISE events between July and October 15, 2025. At the end of the year, standout initiatives will be recognised for their excellence in sustainability, accessibility, innovation, and educational impact.

📢 In addition, confederations will award the official GreenTeam Seal to those federations that successfully complete the course and meet all the SISE event criteria. This seal recognises their commitment to sustainable and inclusive sport and serves as a mark of leadership in the sector.

The message is clear: the time to act is now. Through SISE events, GreenTeam is creating real opportunities for federations to lead by example, inspire their communities, and help shape a future where the sports sector is not only greener—but fairer and stronger too.

Because building tomorrow’s sport starts with the choices we make today. And we’re not doing it alone.
