SISE (Sustainable and Inclusive Sports Events), supported by the European GreenTeam project, encourages federations and clubs to organise sporting events that respect the environment and open up participation to all.
The idea? To offer sporting activities that are accessible to all (young people, senior citizens, people with disabilities), while reducing the ecological impact: waste sorting, sustainable transport, local snacks, etc.
Each event also includes an educational component to raise participants’ awareness of the importance of their choices for fairer, greener sport.
A look back at the launch events:

On 12 June 2025, Gondomar (Portugal) hosted the 1st Walking Football tournament, bringing together local and Porto district teams. Organised by the União das Freguesias de Gondomar (S. Cosme) and Valbom e Jovim (UFGVJ), the event promoted sport, active ageing and inclusion.
Recognised by the Portuguese Football Federation, Walking Football is an adaptation of traditional football, designed especially for those who want to stay active, healthy and in good shape, but at a calmer and safer pace.
The tournament also served to present the European Green Team project and its free online course on organising sustainable and inclusive sporting events.
The success of this first edition confirms Gondomar’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle and more responsible sport.

LSFC held a Green Team seminar on the 17thof June in Riga, Latvia, gathering 27 national sports federation members. The seminar was led by an expert from Latvian Football Federation in organising sustainable and inclusive sports events. The expert from a federation helped other federation members to hear examples and best practices that can be transferred and implemented in their events. The seminar programme consisted on:
- Presenting the Green Team project;
- Educating organisations on creating sustainable and inclusive sports events;
- Holding a discussion with federations on their ideas and practices;
- Presenting the E-learning course;
- Introducing the concept and requirements to fulfil to organise SISE events.

On 27 and 28 May 2025, the Italian association Petit Pas APS, a partner in the European Green Team project, organised two sessions to present the e-learning course on sustainable and inclusive sports events to students.
The event raised young people’s awareness of environmental and social issues in sport, while giving them practical tools to become agents of change. The enthusiasm of the participants shows that the new generations are ready to commit themselves to a sport that unites, educates and respects the planet.

On 17 June 2025, the Lithuanian Sports Federations Union (LSFU) organised a seminar in Vilnius dedicated to the Green Team project, in conjunction with a training session for national federations.
The event brought together 23 representatives from various federations, who came to learn about the project’s tools and objectives, through :
- a presentation of the Green Team project
- an introduction to the e-learning platform
- and an explanation of the SISE (Sustainable and Inclusive Sports Events) concept and the criteria for organising this type of event.
A key initiative to encourage the transition towards more sustainable and inclusive sport in Lithuania.

UFEC, leader of the Green Team project, organised a webinar hosted by Milena de Murga, head of the Social and International Action Department and project coordinator.
📢 30 sports clubs and federations took part in this session to find out how to organise more sustainable and inclusive sports events, incorporating practices that respect the environment and are open to all, particularly young people in vulnerable situations.
🎓 This webinar marks the beginning of the final phase of the project: organisations that have completed the online course can now take action, using the Green Team methodology.
🎁 Thanks to the support of Ecoembes, prizes in kind and in cash will be awarded to the most outstanding initiatives.
